Director School Nursing sciences University of Nairobi Dr Miriam Carole Atieno Wagoro, attended the 48th EDTNA/ERCA International Conference in Prague, Czech Republic.The conference themed ‘New Pathways in the Renal Setting - Caring Together by Integrating Modern Technology based on Knowledge & Education’ targeted to be able to make a successful Integration of the Modern Technology based on Knowledge & Education. To get a continuity and consistency in daily works at Clinics.

Dr. Wagoro presented her research on the psychological experiences of patients with end stage kidney disease in Kenya to giving attendees insight on the emotional and mental trials that face patients with ESKD.The conference travel was facilitated by Shearwater Health an organization that continually develops clinical staff to meet the needs of healthcare providers, payers, and any company with needs that require skilled clinical experience. Dr. Wagoro being a global expert in the field of mental health nursing has alot to contribute to the nursing profession, this greatly advances the impact of patient care around the world for her to share her research with nursing leaders and practitioners from many different countries.

The research project was a 12-week study on a group of 14 patients who were diagnosed with ESKD and were undergoing renal replacement therapy. Upon completing numerous in-depth interviews, Dr. Wagoro uncovered the widespread fear, anger, isolation, and abandonment that these patients experience on an everyday basis because of their diagnosis.  Her findings of the psychological adversities of these patients experience will be applicable to patients from various countries/cultures affected by ESKD.
