Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), headed by Head of Department (HOD) Cardiology, Dr. Murage today carried out a successful Percutaneous Mitral Balloon Valvuloplasty( PBMV) surgery.PBMV is a minimally invasive procedure, conducted under local anesthesia to balloon the micro-valve without opening the chest. A needle goes through the skin, towards the vein and finally into the heart, where the surgeon conducts the operation successfully with a monitor.
PBMV benefits patients because it has been established as a lower-cost alternative treatment for mitral stenosis (MS).
