From March 9th to 12th, 2025, the Heroic Workshop on Advancing Prostate Cancer Intervention Strategies Through Translational Research took place at the East African Kidney Institute (EAKI), University of Nairobi. This high-impact event brought together leading health experts, researchers, and stakeholders to drive innovative strategies in prostate cancer treatment and research across Africa.

The workshop, organized by the US Department of Defense’s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP), was part of the HEROIC PCaPH Africa1K Consortium. The event provided a platform for top scientists, clinicians, and policymakers to discuss critical issues, including genomics, urology, pathology, and public health approaches to prostate cancer.

The program featured a range of insightful sessions, including:
HEROIC Achievements & Future Goals – Presented by Vanessa Hayes (University of Sydney, Australia).
Updates from Research Sites Across Africa – Showcasing ongoing prostate cancer studies in Kenya, South Africa, and Nigeria.
Genomics & Data Science Breakthroughs – Highlighting new research on the genetic factors influencing prostate cancer among African populations.
Public Health & Awareness Initiatives – Strategies to improve education, early detection, and healthcare accessibility.
Student Research Awards – Recognizing outstanding young researchers advancing prostate cancer science.

With a strong focus on translational research, the workshop underscored the importance of collaborative, data-driven approaches to improve patient outcomes in Africa. The event concluded with a team-building excursion and a commitment to ongoing global partnerships, setting the stage for the next meeting in Sydney, Australia.
