The University of Nairobi Faculty of Health Sciences community came together on Saturday, 13 June 2026, for the annual Leave No Medic Behind (LNMB) Charity Run, demonstrating its commitment to assisting medical students experiencing financial hardship.
The event, held under the banner of the Prof. Hassan Saidi Memorial Educational Fund, brought together students, alumni, faculty members, healthcare professionals, partners, sponsors, and friends of the Faculty in a shared mission to ensure that no deserving medical student is forced to abandon their studies due to financial hardship.
Flagging off the run, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Daniel Ojuka, lauded the LNMB initiative for embodying the values of compassion, solidarity, and service that define the medical profession. He noted that beyond raising funds, the event demonstrated the Faculty's collective commitment to nurturing future healthcare professionals and supporting students through their academic journey.
Prof. Ojuka emphasized that investing in students is an investment in the future of healthcare in Kenya, calling on stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives that promote equity and access to medical education.
The chief guest at the event Prof. Rose Jepchumba Kosgei ,the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and AMSUN Patron, highlighted the transformative impact of the Leave No Medic Behind programme since its establishment in 2017.
She noted that the initiative was founded on a simple but powerful belief that financial hardship should never stand in the way of a student's dream of becoming a doctor. Through the Prof. Hassan Saidi Memorial Educational Fund, the programme has continued to provide support for tuition, accommodation, meals, and other essential needs for students requiring assistance.
"Every step you take today is an investment in Kenya's future health workforce. Every registration fee, every sponsorship, every kilometre run, it all matters," she said.
Prof. Kosgei paid tribute to the late Prof. Hassan Saidi, describing him as a distinguished surgeon, educator, and mentor whose legacy continues to inspire acts of generosity and service within the medical community.
She further commended the students who continue to drive the initiative and acknowledged the growing support from alumni, faculty, healthcare professionals, sponsors, and partners who have helped transform LNMB into one of the Faculty's most impactful traditions.
The event attracted approximately 300 participants, including students, alumni, faculty members, healthcare professionals, sponsors, partners and members of the public. The initiative also recorded the sale of more than 500 LNMB T-shirts, reflecting the growing support for the cause.
