Scholars conducted a study on hematological abnormalities among patients with chronic kidney disease.
The study conducted on 120 patients over a period of six months, revealed that about a third of the patients presented neutrophilia, which is an indication of inflammation in the patient’s body. Microcytic anaemia is the most common haematological abnormality and is likely due to iron deficiency.
Frequent testing of iron levels among susceptible patients with chronic kidney disease may help detect and treat iron deficiency by giving iron supplements.
