In the rapidly advancing field of medicine, keeping up with the latest research and contributing to the existing body of knowledge is crucial for medical professionals. Manuscript writing serves as a platform for sharing discoveries, disseminating research findings, and sparking further discussions among experts in the field. To equip future specialists with the necessary skills, a Manuscript Writing Workshop was organized for MMed Year 4 students (2022-2023) by the CMRPT Program at the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The manuscript-writing workshop spanned over a period of five days, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the various aspects of scholarly writing. A range of interactive activities and resources were utilized to facilitate active learning and engagement.
The workshop included intense training on topics such as hands-on writing exercises where participants were given the opportunity to practice their writing skills through various exercises, such as drafting abstracts, introduction sections, and methods sections. Lectures and presentations: Renowned researchers and experienced medical writers from the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology department delivered lectures on various topics.
The Dean Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. George Osanjo, officially opened the workshop. He emphasized on the importance of research especially for scholars. He encouraged the attendees to explore modern methods of research and publishing like video papers instead of writing down procedures a recording if the actual procedure can be done and posted as a research paper.
