In a bid to poise the University of Nairobi (UoN) as a global institution of scholarly excellence, the university through the Faculty of Health Sciences’ Department of Public and Global Health (DPGH), have formed a collaborative agreement with the Evangelical University Institute of Cameroon (IUEC).
This is in line with the signed Collaboration Agreement between UoN and IUEC in October 2025 which aims to facilitate the sharing of expertise, enhance the quality of education and research between the two institutions and to identify potential areas for collaboration and mutual growth.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor - Finance, Planning and Development, Prof. Josiah O. Aduda. Prof. Aduda cemented this collaborative relationship between the two institutions during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Cameroonian university led by the VC for IUEC, Prof Jules-Roger Kuiate.
Prof. Aduda welcomed this pioneering collaboration and reiterated the university’s commitment in supporting partnerships to enhance research and training within the institution.
In this landmark move set to redefine academic and research collaboration, a delegation from IUEC with a team from the Department of Public and Global health concluded highly productive brainstorming meetings, culminating in the establishment of a comprehensive Three-Year Joint Action Plan (2026–2028).
This ambitious plan is poised to foster significant advancements across multiple critical areas, promising a new era of shared expertise and innovation.
This transformative partnership is anchored on four pivotal pillars: Academic mobility and exchanges, curriculum development and joint programs, research and scientific collaboration, and governance and partnership management. These pillars are designed to create a strong framework for cooperation, enabling the exchange of knowledge and resources between the two universities.
The key deliverables of these pillars are expected to be; harmonized masters’ degree curricula (with One Health component), initiation of pilot student/faculty exchanges and submission of one joint research proposal submitted by 2026. By the end of 2027, the collaboration aims to see a fully operational joint double degree program, facilitating at least six student exchanges, contributing to one co-authored publication, and a mid-term review of the partnership's progress.
This landmark cementing of this collaboration followed the brainstorming meeting at the Faculty of Health Sciences and DPGH where Prof Kuiate together with his delegation which included Dr. Ismael Teta the Head of Nutrition for UNICEF met the Associate Dean Postgraduate Research and Training, Prof. Evelyn Wagaiyu and members of the DPGH led by Dr. Rose Opiyo.
The team will also visit the Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Technology at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nairobi to widen the net for academic and research collaboration before departure to Cameroon next week.
