The University of Nairobi Faculty of Health Sciences, in partnership with Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) held the 7th International Conference on Health (ICH 2025) on 13–14 November, 2025.

The two-day event brought together health professionals, researchers, innovators, development partners, and students from across Kenya, Africa, and the world to explore the theme: “Innovation, Resilience & Sustainable Solutions for a Healthy Nation.”

The opening ceremony reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between UoN and KNH in advancing specialized care, research excellence, medical training, and health systems innovation.

Speaking on behalf of the KNH CEO Dr. Richard Lesiyampe, Dr. Gibson Mosila, HOD of General Surgery, emphasized the evolving landscape of healthcare marked by digital disruption, rising disease complexity, and increased demand for specialized care.

He described KNH not just as a hospital, but as a living laboratory and dynamic ecosystem where training, innovation, and compassionate care converge.

He reaffirmed KNH’s commitment to building resilient health systems, improving quality of care, and advancing equitable access through strategic financing and patient-centered models.

Representing the UoN Vice Chancellor Prof. Margaret Hutchinson, the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise Prof. Leonida Kerubo underscored UoN’s role as a regional leader in health sciences research and medical education.

She noted that the conference theme aligned with Kenya’s ongoing Universal Health Coverage reforms and the urgent need for efficient health financing, capacity building, interdisciplinary collaboration, and technology integration.

The DVC challenged faculty, students, partners, and policymakers to innovate boldly, collaborate deeply, and invest strategically to build resilient, inclusive and sustainable health systems.

The ICH 2025 programme featured over 120 scientific abstracts, with sessions covering infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, oncology, digital health, community health, mental health, and workforce resilience.

The conference also included plenaries on cancer prevention, surgical training, digital innovation, and the Social Health Authority’s role in advancing Universal Health Coverage.

Across the two days, a common message emerged; UoN and KNH must continue strengthening their joint mission to train skilled health professionals, drive impactful research, harness technology, and translate evidence into policy and practice.
