Over 750 first year students who were admitted to the University of Nairobi (UoN) College of Health Sciences (CHS) physically reported to campus on 9th November, 2020.
This comes after UoN’s Senate approved the resumption of phased on-campus learning late last month, amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The Senate’s resolution was announced by UoN Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama in his address to the University community.
Prof. Kiama said the decision was reached at for the benefit of students undertaking programs that need to be practically studied in laboratories, adding that the rest of the students will continue with online learning until further notice.
The students were admitted online in September and were being taught online. They could not hide their joy of physically reporting to campus and embark on their career journey in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.
On the reporting day, the students were registered using a biometric system. The system electronically captures the student’s signature, photo and finger prints as well as scanning of national identification card, passport or birth certificate. All these is captured for easy identification of students.
The College management urged the students to remain vigilant and always observe Ministry of Health COVID-19 protocols and guidelines to stop the spread of the disease.
