Prof. Vishva Dixit, an alumnus of the University of Nairobi was decorated with the Bijvoet Medal by Bijvoet Centre for Biomolecular Research at Utrecht University in Netherlands.
Prof. Dixit graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1980. He then joined Washington University School of Medicine and served as a resident in the Department of Pathology.
He joined the University of Michigan Medical School Department of Pathology in 1986 as an associate professor, eventually becoming a full professor.
Prof. Dixit was awarded the medal alongside Prof. Carolyn Bertozzi.
He received the 2022 Dr A.H. Heineken Prize for Medicine, and was awarded the Bijvoet Medal for his contributions to "unraveling the molecular aspects of disease-related cellular signaling with the aim to develop novel therapeutics".
Prof. Dixit’s areas of research include; molecular biology immunology cancer research.
