The prevalence of HIV among men who have sex with men in Kenya has been on the rise. A group of
scholars conducted a study to analyze the transmission patterns of the disease to aid in curbing the HIV
epidemic in Kenya.
Most Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM) were found to travel from Coast province to Nairobi and eventually Kisumu.
This pattern allows the spread of HIV from one region to another very easily. Most MSMs practice sex tourism as well which is a high risk venture for transmission of the disease.
Experts concluded that many MSM sex workers originate from the coastal region but travel to main
cities Nairobi and Kisumu to other clients therefore increasing the spread of HIV to other regions.
The use of PREP and ART medicine is recommended. Destigmatization of persons living with HIV will also help by encouraging MSMs living with HIV to get medication and practice safe sex.
