The Operation Theater Practitioners Alliance of Kenya (OTPAK) in collaboration with Professor Jag Dhanda from Brighton and Sussex Medical School held an educational workshop for Kenyan physicians.
Over the course of 3 days, attendees were lectured on multiple concepts, ranging from virtual reality to fracture management, and taught multiple surgical procedures on cadavers.
The purpose of the workshop was to introduce Kenyan surgeons to some new virtual resources available to them and invite them into the next phase of surgical training, which takes place in a virtual environment. In addition to this content, physicians learned practical skills under the tutelage of experts.
Lectures were held in the dry lab of the University of Nairobi’s Surgical Skills Laboratory whereas practical sessions took place in the wet lab.
The majority of teaching faculty consisted of professors from University of Nairobi.
The workshop was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Prof. Julius Ogeng’o.
In his remarks, Prof. Ogeng’o said UoN the initiative was timely for UoN in this digital era.
“UoN values partnership and collaboration, and we really appreciate this initiative. Let me assure you of our commitment and promise to walk with you,” Prof. Ogeng’o said.
His sentiments were echoed by Faculty of Health Sciences Dean, Prof. George Osanjo as he thanked Prof. Jag for the good initiative.
Also present was Department of Human Anatomy Chair, Prof. Moses Obimbo.
