The Association of Medical Students of the University of Nairobi (AMSUN) held its elections on 5th December, 2025, ushering in a new leadership team to serve for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The highly contested elections saw an enthusiastic turnout as students exercised their mandate to choose representatives who will champion their academic and welfare interests.
In the race for Chairperson, Joel Masiaga emerged victorious with 706 votes, ahead of Gamachu Kulo who got 296 votes, and Isaiah Okumu who garnered 173 votes.
In his remarks, Masiaga expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him by the medical student community.
“I am overwhelmed by the love and support medical students have shown me, and thank you for the trust you have accorded me by electing me as the chair. I appreciate my fellow aspirants, hongera for the race that we have had. It is time to move forward and work for the students,” Masiaga said.
Other elected leaders include Jane Sibia, who won the Vice Chair position with 627 votes against Sean Omondi’s 520; Murage Joy, elected Publicity Secretary with 723 votes over Gordon Okoth’s 289; and Hawi Omolo, who secured the Organizing Secretary seat with 495 votes, ahead of Philip Okello (293) and Gideon Kaula (286).
The newly elected AMSUN leadership is expected to begin its term immediately, with students looking forward to strengthened representation, improved engagement, and continued advancement of student welfare within the Faculty of Health Sciences.
