Advancing global health through collaboration- Prof Wamai Carnelian African Diaspora Fellow - Northeastern University, Boston, USA

"Go, See, Learn and Change" This was the parting shot by Prof.Wamai Carnelian African
Diaspora Fellow from Northeastern University, Boston, USA during his seminar on collaborative global health.


As a health system expert, Prof. Wamai had a loaded presentation on a life of work and
passion in collaborative global health. He highlighted dimensions of global health including security and finance as an approach to this very important branch of health care.


Through his collaborative works that he has done over the years, he has been able to
impact the lives of many individuals both from a large scale approach where he
approved a statement by the then Vice President Hon. Joe Biden on Cervical cancer
screening as a control measure for Cervical cancer mortality rate in the USA to his locally based
organization LWALA which helps individuals in Western Kenya Migori county through
community work.


Prof. Wamai also shared on the research that he has been conducting on different
global health issues including HIV prevention- Prevention approaches towards
elimination, Covid-19 research on epidemiology factors, media and policy.
His papers raised a number of questions from the audience which led to a fruitful
discussion on Kenya's role in global health.


As a Fellow at Northeastern University, Prof. Wamai has encouraged his students to join
in on research and supported many to come to Kenya for the same. He encouraged
more students from our University to join in on more research to improve and advance
global health.
