A study has revealed proper detection, assessment and management of post-operative pain in neonatal patients is vital to mitigate poor outcome.
In various settings analgesic were and are routinely used in neonate post-operatively, hence there was need to objectively determine successful agents which will eventually be recommended.
The aim of this study was to assess postoperative pain management in neonatal patients within the first 24 hours of surgery at the Kenyatta National Hospital. To achieve this scholars scored the level of pain in neonatal patients following surgery, to determine the procedure used in post-operative pain management.
The most effectual control was trimodal analgesic and the least efficacious was a combination of fentanyl and paracetamol. In conclusion Trimodal analgesic gave the best post –operative pain controL.
