UON /KNH NESA SURGICAL WORKSHOP

Advancements in Obstetrics and Gynaecological surgery in the 21st Century are necessary and needed in the healthcare system. These sentiments were echoed by leading doctors and health providers on the 28th and 29th of April 2023 during a workshop organised by the University of Nairobi (UoN).

The main aim of the workshop organised by the Faculty of Health Sciences (UoN) in conjunction with Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and New European Surgical Academy (NESA) was to learn, share, discuss and understand Obstetrics and Gynaecological surgery in the 21st century.

Prof.Michael Stark, President NESA, Dr Maureen Owiti HOD department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology –KNH, Prof Eunice Cheserem Chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, UON and Prof. George Osanjo Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, UON, graced the event. In his opening remarks, the dean welcomed all and proceeded to positively remark on the workshop organised but also its benefit to healthcare.

Invited Keynote speakers had a wide range of topics to discuss including Post-partum Haemorrhage (PPH) and its trends, Caesarean and Endoscopic operations, Hysterectomies, Natural Orifice and abdominal surgeries .They also shared on the Future of Ovarian cancer treatment and trends of invasive cancer.

On the 29th of April, participants of the workshop were able to attend live surgeries on topics discussed and provided the day before. The surgeries included Caesarean, Endoscopic operations and vaginal hysterectomies.

The workshop ended successfully with positive and remarkable views from parties involved.
