The inaugural brain tumour conference was held on 20th-21st May, 2022 at the Faculty of Health Sciences(FSH), University of Nairobi(UoN).
The hybrid conference was hosted by the Units of Anatomic Pathology and Neurosurgery and together with the Brain Tumour Association of Kenya (BTAK). The conference theme was; ‘Creating awareness for brain tumour care in Kenya’.
The first day was graced by Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof. George Magoha speaking on the role of education in improving health. Also in attendance was Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Prof. Ogen’go, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Wagaiyu, Dean, School of Medicine (JKUAT), Dr Simba, KNH CEO, Dr Kamuri, Chair, Surgery Department, Dr Kiboi and BTAK Chairman, Dr. Okemwa.
The first day was marked with development and management of brain tumour patients in Kenya and internationally with great presenters including CAS, Ministry of Health, Dr M. Mwangangi, who presented online. The day ended with a gala dinner at Radison Blu to network.
The second day was focused on patient experiences on brain tumour treatment, brain tumour registry and psychiatric talk which opened the forum to the launch of the support group for brain tumour patients.
