FSH hosts inaugural brain tumour conference

The inaugural brain tumour conference was held on 20th-21st May, 2022 at the Faculty of Health Sciences(FSH), University of Nairobi(UoN).

The hybrid conference was hosted by the Units of Anatomic Pathology and Neurosurgery and together with the Brain Tumour Association of Kenya (BTAK). The conference theme was; ‘Creating awareness for brain tumour care in Kenya’.

FHS soars after stellar performance during University awards

The Faculty of Health Sciences (FSH) produced outstanding results during the University of Nairobi 3rd Prize Presentation Ceremony held on 6th May, 2022.

It was all cheers as FHS dominated the prize recipients list for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic years.

The awards ranged from gold medals, cash prizes and trophies from over 100 donors and partners.

FHS shines at PC and staff recognition award ceremony

It was a big day for the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) as it shone brightly at the University of Nairobi (UoN) Performance Contracting and Staff Recognition Awards FY 2020/2021 ceremony.

The event which was held at Taifa Hall on March 23, 2022 was presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama.

Vice Chancellor meets FHS staff

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama was on a two-day visit to the Faculty of Health Sciences(FHS) to meet and engage members of staff at the faculty.

On Monday 31 January, 2022, the VC visited the Department of Pharmacy and Dental Sciences, while on Tuesday 1st February, 2022, he visited the Department of Medicine and Nursing respectively.  

Dr. Omosa pioneers Capacity Building for Scientific Manuscript Writing program at FHS

“UANDISHI-Building Capacity for Writing Scientific Manuscripts” is an innovative and experiential training program in mentoring and scientific manuscript writing, aimed at fostering scientific manuscripts writing skills and output, at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), University of Nairobi (UON). This program complements other existing research training ventures within FHS and is hosted at KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research (KAVI-ICR). IAVI funds UANDISHI through a collaborative grant secured by Dr.

Dr. Mureithi awarded Female Science Talents Intensive Track 2022

Dr. Marianne Mureithi is among the selected 20 women in science globally to receive the Female Science Talents Intensive Track 2022.She is the current Chair of the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology and Senior Research Fellow at KAVI-Institute of Clinical Research at the University of Nairobi.

UoN alumna lands Chief Pathologist and Laboratory Medical Director post in US

Dr. Asha Sigei an alumna of the University of Nairobi has been appointed as the new Chief Pathologist and Medical Director of the Iredell Memorial Laboratory in the United States of America.

Her appointment was announced in a statement published on Iredell Health System website on 6th January, 2022.

She studied medicine at the University of Nairobi School of Medicine and graduated in 2010.

Dr. Sigei completed a year-long internship in Kenya before moving to the United States for further studies.

UoN celebrates 6,647 graduands during 66th graduation

The University of Nairobi held its 66th graduation ceremony on 17th December, 2021. On this occasion, the University celebrated the hard work of 6,647 graduands, ushering them out into the world to utilize their knowledge, skills and behavior to build the nation and serve their communities.

Speaking during the 66th graduation ceremony, the Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi, urged the graduating class to always remain determined and hopeful.

Tell us your name and some bit of family and education background.

My name is Dr. Rebecca Adut Dau.  A daughter of  two nations, Kenya and South Sudan.

I studied at Ruaraka Academy and did my KCPE exams in 2010 and scored 416 marks. I later on joined The Kenya High School and sat for KCSE in 2014 where I scored A and joined the University of Nairobi to study Pharmacy.
