The University of Nairobi (UoN) Chancellor Dr. Vijoo Rattansi conferred degrees and awarded diplomas to 5,709 graduands during the 64th UoN graduation ceremony held on 11th December, 2020.
This was the second graduation ceremony the University successfully held virtually in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
During the ceremony, the University awarded honorary degrees to Prof. Julia Ojiambo and Prof. Micere Mugo.
Prof. Ojiambo, who is the Chair of UoN Council, was awarded Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in Leadership while Prof. Mugo was awarded Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) in Literature.
Dr. Rattansi congratulated the graduands and appreciated their families and sponsors who have selflessly walked the journey with them. She also appreciated the faculty and university support staff for applying themselves to support the graduands in their career journey.
On his part, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Stephen Kiama also congratulated all the graduands of class of 2020 for completing their studies on time despite the negative effects of Covid-19.
Council Chair Prof. Julia Ojiambo encouraged the graduands to always soldier on and never give up in any way.
“You must never accept defeat despite deprivation and desolation that may come your way. Take comfort in knowing that the will of God will never take you, where His grace cannot keep you; where His arms cannot support you; where His riches cannot supply your needs or where the power of God cannot endow you. Indeed, you are children of the universe, no less than the brothers and sisters that passed this way before you,” Prof. Ojiambo said.
“So we send you out today, as our ambassadors to the world. May you soar high on wings like eagles; May you run and not grow weary; May you walk and not faint. It is your time for glory; let neither friend nor foe dim your light,” Prof. Ojiambo added.
