Prof. Jaoko debunks COVID-19 vaccine myths

There are high hopes COVID-19 vaccines will help end the pandemic. However, there have been claims about these vaccines that have received mixed reactions from all quarters some advocating for the vaccines and others heavily criticizing the vaccines based on the manner in which the vaccines were hurriedly developed and approved raising safety and effectiveness concerns.

5709 graduate as UoN holds 2nd virtual graduation ceremony

The University of Nairobi (UoN) Chancellor Dr. Vijoo Rattansi conferred degrees and awarded diplomas to 5,709 graduands during the 64th UoN graduation ceremony held on 11th December, 2020.

This was the second graduation ceremony the University successfully held virtually in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

During the ceremony, the University awarded honorary degrees to Prof. Julia Ojiambo and Prof. Micere Mugo.

CHS gets PPEs donation from Equity Group and Kenya COVID-19 board fund

The University of Nairobi (UoN) was among 11 universities that received a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) courtesy of Equity Group Foundation and the Kenya COVID-19 Fund Board.

USAID comes to the aid of final year medical students

The University of Nairobi (UoN) School of Medicine received Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) support worth 12 million Kenya shillings from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The PPEs were handed over to UoN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Kiama by Mark Meassick, the Mission Director of USAID Kenya and East Africa on 16th September, 2020.

Study reveals increase in use of antibiotics in Africa and Asia due to COVID-19

A study has shown an increase in the use of antibiotics and antimalarials in Africa and Asia due to corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The study was conducted by Dr. Sylvia Opanga, a senior lecturer at the School of Pharmacy, University of Nairobi together with other scholars in Africa and Asia.

Dr. Opanga presented the study with its findings during the UoN-CHS COVID-19 Research Forum held on Tuesday 4th August, 2020.

CHS COVID-19 Response and Research Committee holds its third virtual research forum

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) COVID-19 Response and Research Committee continues to hold virtual research forums to discuss research being conducted at CHS towards COVID-19 response.

The 3rd forum was held on 21st July, 2020 where Prof. Peter Mungai, from the School of Medicine was the presenter.

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) COVID-19 Response and Research Committee held its second virtual research forum on 14th July, 2020, a week after holding the inaugural session on 7th July, 2020.

The presentation and discussion during the 2nd session revolved around offering psychological support to frontline healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
